This is a combination of both Firearm Safety class and a live fire orientation on all common firearms: Pistol, revolver, rifle, and shotgun.

If you are brand new to firearms, and you are interested in learning the right way, the safe way, from the beginning, this is the appropriate class for you.

If you have some experience handling firearms, but never had a comprehensive overview of Use of Force doctrine, and are looking to build a broad and varied foundation in self defense and gun knowledge, in order to succeed in our more advanced programs, then this is the prerequisite for you.

If you are aspiring to be a successful firearm or self-defense trainer, and you wish to gather ideas for curriculum, learn about teaching methodology, and watch an experienced and skilled orator present before students, this is the class for you.

Since covid, we have moved most of our programs to an outdoor training facility located near Mt Hamilton. It is 1 hour east of San Jose, and 1 hour south of Livermore. We will email detailed driving instructions to you when you sign up.

Ask detailed questions, learn, explore, and play with all the show and tell things we’re preparing for you. You don’t need any equipment.

We will train all day, taking breaks to rest and eat as necessary. We have lots of material to cover, and everyone learns at a different pace. Plan for a long,  full and tiring day. We finish when you finish. The class goes at the student’s pace. Typical classes run 9am to 7pm.

All firearms, equipment, ammunition, and hearing protection are provided.

Typical firearms provided for students in this class:

Glock 17
Smith and Wesson Shield 9mm
Walther PPK
1911 in 9mm and .45acp
Snub nose revolver
Service size .357 magnum revolver
.22LR revolver
12 gauge pump shotgun
20 gauge pump shotgun
Semi automatic shotgun
Bolt action rifle

Required Equipment
Note taking material, pen and paper
Water, snacks and bag lunch
Dress for outdoor activity, especially important in the winter months

Bring a pair of glasses. Any kind is fine as long as they cover your eyes.

We will provide the necessary firearms for you to train with, but if you want to bring your own gun, and learn more about it, you are welcome to. Please bring your own ammo if you want to shoot your own gun at the end of class.

Our website checkout system is currently set to take only single orders at a time. The purpose for this is to encourage each person to read the website individually, so he or she understands fully what they are signing up for, and also for each person to receive driving directions to reduce the chance of folks scrambling last minute to try and find the driving directions. Finally, we need to see each registrant’s unique name and contact information so we have a record of who attended.

We offer the Firearm Safety program as often as feasible to meet recent demand. Currently we offer the class every 4 weeks, or roughly 14 classes per year. Typical class sizes are about 20 students.

During the wet season, when the days are shorter, we shoot at night. It is a good idea to bring clear safety glasses.

We are at 2500 feet above sea level. In the winter months, it can be cold, so bring warm clothes. In the summer months it is very hot, but by staying in the shade, and drinking water you can stay cool.
