Here the warrior scholar is forged. Pounded to perfection through discipline and dedicated study, repetition and attention to detail.

Welcome to Skill Builder. This group format workshop is not a basic level firearms course. This is not the time for hand-holding and sweet talking, nor is it for introducing you to your gear. It is an affordable, safe, and fast paced opportunity for the developing shooter to practice and perfect his or her technique; To stretch his or her limits of speed and accuracy under time and peer pressure, guided by as-necessary instruction from professional trainers. The fast paced class offers minimal talking, and maximum trigger time.

This class focuses on perfect repetition of perfect defensive shotgun technique.

Those who have seen the light understand that there is no such thing as an “advanced” technique, or an “advanced” gunfight. Simply put, the mastery of core principles, or the lack thereof, is the only thing which differentiates the professional from the amateur, the victor from the victim.

In this workshop, you will push yourself to mental exhaustion, run your equipment to the point of failure, develop confidence in your gun-handling abilities and metal toughness, grow in discipline and moral character, and become faster, stronger, more alert, and more accurate than you previously thought possible.

We will run drills that isolate and allow you to perfect these skills:

Universal principles of gun safety
Slow, meticulous, efficient weapon manipulation
Emergency port load
Tactical reload (tube or box magazine)
Non-diagnostic clearance of simple malfunctions
Slug select drill
Smooth, efficient, fast presentation from ready positions
Slow, consistent, safe use of the sling
Aggressive, stable, and mobile fighting stance
Alternate visual index speed shooting
High tuck retention position
Instinctive point shooting
Hard lateral movement and use of cover to reduce your likelihood of leaking fluid
Moving and multiple threat engagement
Sidearm transition and emergency one hand engagements

You will need:

1 gallon of water
Primary shotgun
Optional: handgun with strong side holster, appendix is okay
50 rounds of lead birdshot or target load
20 rounds of buckshot
10 rounds of slug (See FAQ)
At least 2 spare magazines, if box magazine fed shotgun
Pockets or pouches for your ammunition
Cleaning kit and lubricant
Barrel cleaning rod
Tools for mounting and adjusting your optics, chokes, and accessories
Eye and ear protection
Closed-toe shoes
Sunscreen
Dress in layers suitably for the weather; we shoot rain or shine

Sign up early! This class will sell out. Cost for the event will be $155. First 6 shooters to register early with promo code “EARLY20” get $20 off! Register with a buddy and take another $20 discount per person.

Meet us just inside the main gate a waiver and name tape, then you can set up your gear at the range and prepare for safety brief. Keep all firearms encased until the time comes, then we will all unpack them together.

FAQ:

Can I borrow a gun?

I have spare guns in both 20 and 12 gauge. If you wish to borrow one at no additional charge, contact me early to discuss.

Do I need a specific type of shotgun?

Bring whatever you have, and I will be happy to train you on it. Pump and tube fed semi-automatic shotguns are common, but single shot, double barrel, and Saiga/VEPR or other box magazine fed shotguns are perfectly welcome.

Is there an age limit?

Parental discretion and supervision required. Teens 14+ welcome. This is not a class well suited to younger children.

I don’t have a holster, is that okay?

If you want to use a pistol, you need to bring one or contact me in advance to borrow one. You may wear a handgun, although we won’t focus on it for this class.

Should I use an inside the waistband or outside the waistband holster?

The choice is yours but I recommend you use “street” gear.

Can I use appendix carry?

Yes.

Should I wear body armor?

If you have it at home, its not very useful is it? Train wearing what you will fight in. Body armor or bathrobe, the choice is yours.

What calibers do you allow?

So long as you’re safe, anything goes.

My friend wants to attend, but he/she has never shot before. Can he/she come?

This is not a suitable event for a first time shooter. Please contact us by email at info@monarchdefense.org or check out www.monarchdefense.org to schedule a first class for your friend.

What can/can’t I bring to the event?

Do not consume any alcohol or mind altering substances before or during the shooting.

Again, please no steel core, armor piercing, incendiary, or tracer ammunition. No steel, tungsten, bismuth, or other hard alloy shotgun loads that may ricochet or damage steel targets.

How can I contact the organizer with my questions?

Brian Wang is the event organizer. He can be reached at 408-892-5460 or info@monarchdefense.org

What is the refund policy?

Refunds are not accepted for this event. Credit can be applied toward future classes or events with 7 days advanced notice.

Notes on equipment and California compliance:

Bring what you have, don’t stress too much about it. You’ll be fine. If it doesn’t work, I’ll loan you a set. If you do not have anything, talk to me ahead of time and I’ll bring you an entire kit. KISS Keep it simple, stupid. You are responsible for knowing the law and accepting the consequences. We neither have the duty nor the resources to enforce the law regarding California compliance. As long as you are being safe, bring what you wish. More questions? info@monarchdefense.org
