Study groups are low cost, flexible, casual, and high quality opportunities to train in an intimate small group environment with your instructor and fellow students of a variety of skill levels. Study Groups are a hybrid between private custom training, which can be prohibitively expensive, and open enrollment group classes, which can be busy and chaotic and at inconvenient times. If you have scheduling flexibility and you want to train in a semi-private and more intimate manner for a wide variety of topics, consider joining our new Study Group program.
To join this Precision Rifle Study Group, please submit your range fee using the online checkout on this page, and contact Brian at email@example.com for questions.
7am till your wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend/mother/father/pimp/madam/dog/cat/iguana/goldfish calls you for the third time asking where the hell you are, likely well after dark.
Because we need to maximize our daylight, we will start extremely early. It is not a bad idea to come the afternoon/evening ahead of time and camp out. We can provide you a hot shower, make breakfast and coffee and there’s even a nice bucket to poo in!
Our facility is located in the Diablo Range, and hour and a half east of downtown San Jose, an hour and a half south of Livermore, 2 hours from San Francisco or Oakland. No, we are not in San Jose city limits; Yes, San Jose is the nearest city. No matter which direction you come from, there will be roughly 1 hour of fairly technical and winding mountain roads for you to navigate. Suck it up buttercup. Not willing to make the drive? Try golf instead. Think the drive takes too long? Just teleport, it’s easy! Detailed directions will be emailed to you after you sign up.
We’ll meet at the 100 yard range and review fundamentals concepts of precision rifle shooting, discuss what causes folks to succeed or struggle, discuss in great detail rifle setup, troubleshooting, zeroing, ammunition selection, and shooting technique. We will then break into small groups to practice, zero, and chronograph.
In the afternoon, we will set out a few targets at an unknown distances, and we will take turns engaging the targets, to practice, build confidence, and gather DOPE, then we will move farther back for more challenge.
You really should take Introduction to Fighting Rifle before joining the precision rifle program, but what do I know? I just put on the classes. (Of course, you’re very smart, so go ahead, skip the prerequisite. Everyone can wait for an hour while we go back and cover the basics of rifle zeroing theory juuuust for you.)
You should be able to load and unload your rifle, clear malfunctions, mount or adjust your scope, handle your weapon safely, shoot from the basic field positions of standing, kneeling, sitting, and prone, understand the basics of ballistic trajectory, and know how to zero your rifle. In other words, take Introduction to Fighting Rifle.
Water, snacks, lunch, sun screen, close toe shoes, eye and ear protection, coats boots, gloves, wool socks, and other clothing suitable for sustained outdoor activity in wet and cold weather.
You may use your personal rifle, or I can supply one for you free of charge.
Bring 100+ rounds of the same ammo to practice with. As usual, bring the tools necessary to mount and zero your scope and to maintain your rifle.
I can provide you with ammunition to train with. Calibers available: .223 Remington, .243 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Winchester, 30-06 Springfield, 300 Winchester Magnum. Other calibers available upon request. Contact me *well* in advance so I can make sure we have enough ammo in your caliber.
As with all study group classes, this class is funded by donation. The purpose of this is to give you the flexibility to pay what you feel is affordable and worthwhile for the training, yet still bring in enough revenues to allow our classes to sustain into the future.
I ask that you find an amount that is comfortable for you somewhere between $50 to $200 per person. Cash, check, Venmo, PayPal, Google Pay, credit card, etc. are all accepted. Donations of equipment or ammunition for use by future students are also appreciated and accepted.
How can I contact the organizer with my questions? Brian Wang is the event organizer. He can be reached at 408-892-5460 or firstname.lastname@example.org
