Study groups are cost effective, flexible, casual, and high quality opportunities to train in an intimate small group environment with your instructor and fellow students of a variety of skill levels. Study Groups are a hybrid between private custom training, which can be prohibitively expensive, and open enrollment group classes, which can be busy and chaotic and at inconvenient times. If you have scheduling flexibility and you want to train in a semi-private and more intimate manner for a wide variety of topics, consider joining our new Study Group program.
To join, please submit $0.01 using the online checkout on this page. Obviously, this is a symbolic payment that signifies your commitment to being there, and seals our commitment to serving you. Contact Brian at email@example.com for questions.
5pm to 9pm or whenever we finish
United Studios of Self Defense, 409 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, CA 94025
Meet at the dojo and get to know the other students. Be sure your fingernails are clean and trimmed, that you have clothing that you don’t mind getting torn potentially, and that will allow you to move freely, and no earrings or jewelry. Take off any knives, guns or other live weapons. We will warm up and stretch together, look at some case studies, and dive into all the very detailed knowledge that Mr. Strathdee has to offer.
Possible topics include kidnappings, carjackings, muggings, other aggressive confrontations, grappling techniques, gun disarms, flashlight/kubotan strikes, take-downs, joint locks, chokes, pepper spray, taser….you name it.
Remember to take off your shoes when entering the dojo mat area, and to wash or sanitize your hands before we begin.
When the group is tired and happy, we’ll clean up and head home, or maybe head to In-n-Out for a late night bite. Very simple, very flexible, very casual. This is a mixed skill level semi-private class. Expect the class size to be 6-10 students.
There are no prerequisites.
Water, closed toe shoes, dress for strenuous physical activity (we hold class rain or shine). You may bring dummy guns and training knives if you wish. Groin protectors, aka “cups” are optional.
As with all study group classes, this class is funded by donation. The price to sign up is 1 cent, which is symbolic of your commitment to attend. You can pay the instructor directly after class, and while tuition is flexible, the class is not free. For a class this size, with access to our guest instructor’s vast experience and knowledge, suitable tuition is anywhere from $40 to $120 per person. Cash, check, Venmo, PayPal, Google Pay, etc. are all accepted. There is no additional facility fee. Any ammo we consume is separate, and at market rate.
