After thinking about it for years, I decided we should buy a few canvas tents from @whiteduck_outdoors, just in time for a weekend class when a bunch of students were scheduled to stay over. Well, FedEx dropped off both tents, but only one frame. I put out an emergency distress call to the volunteers, and Francis ran up to the facility at 10pm with a load of lumber, and I spent that Friday night till 3:20am building this frame. Amazingly…. The tent fit on the frame on first try! Can you see all the geometric and #woodworking errors? All I see when I look at this tent are the areas where I miscalculated angles. I hope to see you soon to be our guest at the facility just 1 hour east of San Jose, CA for overnight classes.

People come to class hoping to learn about handguns, and they are often disappointed to learn that the truth is handguns are not what I recommend to beginners. Are you going to carry your firearm? Or are you buying a gun to learn about gun ownership, firearm safety, and the self defense lifestyle? Most of you aren’t ready to start carrying a gun tomorrow, so be honest with your needs. Your first gun should be for learning. That means compact size and lightweight and fancy accessories are all low priorities. Keep it simple. #selfdefense #handguns #tactical #training

The venerable CAR15. Brownells chrome lined A1 profile “pencil” barrel. M16 bolt carrier group, standard carbine buffer and spring. Skinny car handguards. C7 upper receiver, a2 pistol grip with the finger nub ground smooth. USGI general purpose strap with the clips cut off, tied on with gutted para cord. It works.

Cute tiny pistols are deceptive in that oftentimes petit ladies are attracted to them. Don’t be fooled though. Small pistols such as this Walther PPK/S aka “James bond’s gun” are indeed advanced users weapons. They are designed with a man’s hand strength in mind. Low lethality, snappy recoil, small sights, short sight radius, small controls, stiff springs, low magazine capacity are all disadvantages of small pistols. Also, small pistols combined with low upper body mass small statured shooters leads to high frequency of “limp wrist” malfunction. Remember as you are getting started in learning, the bigger the gun the easier is will be to learn on. Carbines, shotguns, and large frame pistols much better for most people and most purposes. #selfdefense #concealedcarry #walther #pistol
