  1. What kind of classes do you offer?
We offer group and private classes that are focused on education at the entry level and on training at the advanced level. Basic topics include gun safety, self-defense psychology and mindset, pistol, revolver, rifle, and shotgun operation, home defense, concealed carry, use of deadly force, and close range gunfighting.
  2. Which class is right for me?
The Shooting Range Experience is the “base of the pyramid” and most students will start there. Then, many progress to Next Steps Self Defense, or to a package of more in depth training. Those who come with prior experience, but looking to fine tune their technique or else have a specific need (police academy, youth firearm safety, corporate or faith based security) often start with a 1-on-1 class that allows the instructor to assess your current needs and tailor your training efficiently. For those shooters who are well trained and looking for an opportunity to practice and perfect their skills in a fast paced environment, under supervision but minimal instruction, look towards Dynamic Drills Day and Defensive Handgun Skill Builder.
  3. Who are your classes catered towards?
Our classes are geared towards the civilian student who understands the Nature of Conflict, and who takes responsibility for the protection of themselves and their family. To this end, women form a huge demographic of our students. Ultimately it is women who are both vulnerable to depredation, and have much to protect. While ‘guns’ tend to be the domain of men’s hobbies, the defensive use of a firearms is a necessary life skill for all.
  4. What languages do you offer classes in?
    Currently English and Mandarin.
  5. Where are your classes held?
Most live fire classes are offered on a private range at Coyote Valley Sporting Clays in Morgan Hill, while classes that do not require live fire are often held  at Tactica Krav Maga Institute in Santa Clara. While we have permission to teach at several other ranges in the bay area, most public firing lines simply do not allow for the type of training necessary in self defense. Several times a year the instructors also host classes in Tampa, Florida, Houston Texas, and Southern California.
  6. Do you offer women’s only classes?
Yes and No. While we do offer classes customized to suit you or your groups needs, and are happily to train with you individually, we do not sell women’s only classes per se. This is simply because the need for self defense isn’t a ‘women’s only’ issue. Men and women learn differently, and ask different questions. It is important that you get to hear the questions that others thought to ask, and they learn from hearing your perspective as well.
  7. Do you certify students for California license to Carry a Concealed Weapon (CCW)?
The Californian concealed carry permitting process is a mess currently, particularly in the populous Bay Area counties. Contact us for details on the application process and licensing in your county. In the meantime, consider applying for a Florida multi-state Concealed Weapons License, and adopting the Vermont model of carry.
  8. Do you offer youth classes?
Yes. Children pre-school age and up are encouraged to partake in gun safety discussions, and children middle school age and up are invited to join adults in shooting and self-defense instruction. It is the instructor’s professional opinion that parents should involve their children when rehearsing Armed Intruder Drills at home, and desensitize them to the excitement of handling firearms before puberty. Not only does this condition their instinct for self protection, but also helps preempt unsafe behavior as adolescents.
  9. Should I buy a gun first or take a class first?
Should you buy a Porche first or learn to drive first? Should you go swimming first, or learn to swim first? Students are welcome to use our firearms for ANY class, at NO charge. It is part of what we do. Owning a firearm is a liability that can get you killed or imprisoned; Knowledge is an asset that allows you to maximize your dollar and your safety. Do yourself a favor and learn how and when to use a gun first.
  10.  Do you offer security guard (BSIS) certification?
No, but security guards and police recruits who have pending qualifications do regularly hire our services for remedial/supplemental training. It only takes a quick session or two and a few key pointers to bring a failing cadet to the top of his class in marksmanship.
  11. If I purchase a package, can I substitute or customize my program? Yes! The class packages as written here are samples to be used as a template for building a training program best suited for your interests, needs, and skill levels. If you would like to purchase a package together and split it between two people, by all means I am happy to do so. If you want to begin your training on the Defensive Handgun 3 level, rather than the Defensive Handgun 1 level, that is perfectly alright.
  12. What is the cancellation policy?  When you commit to a class by paying tuition, I commit to the class by blocking out my calendar and preparing equipment, ammunition, and facilities. Other students can no longer book that slot. Should you need to reschedule, contact me at least 7 days in advance, and I will be happy to apply your payment to a different class. If you give me late notice, or no-show, it is neither fair to me as the instructor nor to the other students. and thus you are not entitled to any refund. We shoot rain or shine.
