SUMMARY:Action 2-Gun Competition 9MAR24
DESCRIPTION:Exciting combat and defense oriented shooting competition with 6-8 dynamic stages of fire for pistol and rifle. Move and shoot in challenging scenarios. Distances vary from 0 meters to 400 meters and feature many reactive steel targets.  \nStage 1: Heavy shelling and spring rains have left the fields between our trench and the enemy’s trench a muddy\, barren\, wasteland. Sprint and crawl across the open while engaging known\, suspected\, and likely enemy positions as you move from shell crater to shell crater. You must move to within hand grenade range to destroy the enemy. To victory! \nStage 2: Your squad’s advance has been halted by heavy fire from a well emplaced enemy machine gun. Seek cover\, suppress the aperture of the sand bagged pillbox\, crawl forward using the most covered and concealed route to find a blind spot to approach it from the flank.  \nStage 3: With the enemy machine gun position properly suppressed\, approach it from the flank\, suppress the aperture\, prepare and throw a grenade into the aperture. Take cover in the prone position with your helmet facing the direction of the explosion. Once the grenade detonates\, enter and clear the bunker from the rear entrance.  \nStage 4: With the enemy’s machine gun position destroyed\, your squad can move across no man’s land and into the trench network. Clear your way through the trench. \nStage 5: While you have cleared and occupied the trench\, the enemy has a say. Undoubtedly they will soon begin artillery bombardment followed by infantry assault. Use the tools and resources at hand to prepare your position for defense.  \nStage 6: Here they come! Keep your head down\, move from firing position to firing position to keep the enemy guessing as to where you are and how many of you there are. Suppress the enemy with grenades as he draws near\, then destroy him in the open before he reaches your trench.  \nStage 7: You successfully repelled the enemy counterattack\, but heavy fire from enemy automatic grenade launcher has gravely wounded your squad mate. Assess his wounds\, apply tourniquets to stop extremity arterial bleeding\, screen the enemy’s visibility with smoke grenades\, then carry him out to the evacuation point where a vehicle will pick him up. \n\n\n\nTime: \n\n\n\n9-10am open range for zeroing and practice. At 10am we’ll begin the first stage. Plan to finish around 5pm.   \n\n\n\nLocation: \n\n\n\n1 hour east from San Jose in the mountains. Detailed driving directions will be emailed to those who register.  \n\n\n\nGuiding Principles: \nWeapons are to be pointed up\, down\, or downrange.Keep your finger above the trigger and on the side of the gun unless you are ready to shoot.Keep your weapon on safety unless you are shooting.Load when you are ready to use your weapon\, and load it appropriately for your purpose. We’re here to shoot\, to have fun\, to learn\, to practice\, and to challenge and help each other be better. Winning against others is not the principle goal.Holsters must securely fasten the pistol to your body and cover the trigger. You and your gear are gonna get wet\, dirty\, and scratched.Help set up\, clean up\, tape targets\, and reset stages. We shoot rain or shine. Plan accordingly. We start together with set up and briefing. We end together with debrief and cleanup. You can use any gun\, optics\, and accessories\, so long as they are safe to use.Use the time from 9am to 10am to zero your weapons. In martial spirit\, you should always attempt to seek cover and to stay low.Make friends and shout encouragement! It’s okay to be slow.If someone is struggling\, help him or her improve. If you are new\, do not fret. We’ll pair you up with an experienced shooter who can coach and mentor you.Bring snacks to share.Camping is welcome.Dogs\, families\, and spectators are welcome. We regularly shoot in the dark. Prepare accordingly.Clean and put back weapons\, gear or magazines that you borrow from the school. \n\n\n\nQuestions? \n\n\n\nBrian Wang is the event organizer. He can be reached at 408-892-5460 or info@monarchdefense.org \n\n\n\nWhat is the refund policy? \n\n\n\nWe do not issue refunds\, but we do offer a very flexible reschedule policy. SUMMARY:Night Vision Class 16MAR24
DESCRIPTION:For the past 20 years of war in the middle east\, a generation of Americans have grown up seeing night vision prominently featured in movies\, video games\, and in the news. “We own the night” proclaimed military strategists and soldiers alike. It was our special American super power\, to see in the dark\, when the adversary could not. Now\, with increasing popularity and availability in the private sector\, more and more everyday citizens are finding night vision to be affordable and accessible\, and are adding night vision capability to their personal equipment.  \nWhat is the capability of modern night vision? How much does it cost? What would I need to buy? What is junk to avoid? What is nice but unnecessary and expensive? What is lightweight\, reliable and durable that I can afford? How far can I see with night vision? How can I aim my rifle or pistol when using night vision? How do I set it up\, focus it\, and use it for navigating in the dark?  \nTogether in Introduction to Night Vision we will answer all of these questions\, and more! Learn how to maximize the strengths of night vision\, while mitigating and overcoming it’s shortcomings. Gather tips and best practices on zeroing infrared lasers\, shooting in the dark\, and night time movement.   \nThe school has limited sets of loaner night vision equipment\, and they are free to borrow. SUMMARY:Principles of Ambush 17MAR24
DESCRIPTION:Principles of Ambush is the 3rd installment from Monarch Defense’s small unit tactics series offered spring 2024. This curriculum was previously offered only in Monarch Defense’s Special Purpose Rifle School\, and after gathering customer feedback for several years\, this year we aim to break up the curriculum into recurring once-a-month classes that will allow you more flexibility in scheduling. \nThis class will introduce students to modern tactical theory\, field movement\, leadership\, teamwork\, and the unique american fighting doctrine which was born of a hybrid of Native American and European fighting methods\, and despite being codified by Robert Rogers in 1757\, is still used and taught to this day. \nCase in point\, this highly condensed and efficient introductory class is exactly what our team of seasoned instructors compiled for and taught to the all-volunteer 47th Separate Battalion during the summer of 2022\, which later became the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukraine Armed Forces who spearheaded the counteroffensive against Russian occupation during the summer of 2023. These were regular people just like you who made the decision to learn how to fight. \nThose who study history find that there are cycles and patterns which repeat themselves\, so if you understand history\, you are able to predict and prepare for the future. \nIn 1775\, the young United States was losing a war against the Great Britain\, most powerful military in the world at the time\, and turned to an expert military instructor from Prussia named Friedrich Wilhelm Von Steuben for help. The rag tag colonial militiamen had the heart to fight\, but needed to learn teamwork and tactics. This training is what eventually lead to the defeat of Great Britain in 1783. \nIn 1937 China found itself invaded by a superior imperial Japanese army. The Chinese Communist Party Liberation Army managed to survive WW2 by the skin of it’s teeth\, then went on to fight and win a civil war from 1945-1949\, then fought the United States in direct combat in Korea in the 1950-1953\, so by the time Ho Chi Minh\, leader of North Vietnam turned to China for military aid during the Vietnam War from 1955-1975\, Chinese advisors were well qualified to teach the north Vietnamese commoner how to fight and win against a technologically superior professional adversary. Leading to the defeat of the United States in 1975. \nThe Soviet Union\, the largest country in the world\, invaded and occupied Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989\, and for 10 years despite having an overwhelming advantage in technology and military might\, were defeated by essentially peasants with some old rifles and the occasional shoulder fired anti aircraft missile. What was the secret to their success? American funded guerrilla training and tactics. So successful was this proxy war for the Americans\, that it lead to the literal collapse of the Soviet Union\, ending the Cold War. \nFast forward to 2001 and the United states made the same mistake as the USSR\, attempting a military occupation of Afghanistan. Those same Afghans who defeated the USSR refused to be subjugated by the United States\, the most powerful military in the world\, and after 20 years of occupation\, yet again in 2021\, the bigger\, more technologically advanced aggressor withdrew\, admitted defeat. Do you see the pattern? \nIn each of these cases the underdog\, a ragtag collection of laymen\, is able to defeat a numerically and technologically superior adversary through discipline\, tactics\, simple weapons\, and an understanding of combat theory. \nIf you understand that history repeats itself\, then when will it be your turn to fight for your freedom\, your sovereignty\, your family\, or your life against a superior adversary? When that time comes\, would you rather find yourself scrambling to survive\, or would you rather learn how to fight now\, such that when the time comes you become the proverbial warrior in a garden\, rather than the gardener in a war? \n\n\n\nLocation:\nMeet and park at 37505 San Antonio Valley Road\, Mt Hamilton\, CA 95140. SUMMARY:Low Light Handgun Class 23MAR24
DESCRIPTION:The adversary chooses the time and place. As a student of self defense and the modern martial art\, it is critical that you add low light training to your repertoire of skills and capabilities. After all\, half the world is dark all the time…Darkness has advantages\, the question is\, are you giving the advantage to the adversary?  \nIn recent years\, LED lights have become smaller\, lighter\, and more durable. Weapon lights are lighter\, more powerful\, and holsters for those weapon lights have become more available. Still\, the basic need for understanding how the human eye works in the dark\, and how to move\, aim and shoot using flashlights has not fundamentally changed.  \nIn this specialty seminar let’s understand the unique niches that handheld pocket flashlights and pistol mounted lights hold in the modern age of defensive gun ownership and carry. Allowing you to identify threats\, and shoot with precision speed in the dark.   \nLearn the SureFire Institute principles of operating in low light\, learn what tools and techniques work in the real word\, and gather tips on moving\, shooting\, concealed carry\, home defense and close quarter battle.  \n\n\n\nPrerequisite: \n\n\n\nYou must have prior safe weapons handling experience to attend this seminar.  \n\n\n\nTopics:  \n\n\n\nHow your natural night vision worksEquipment selection\, handheld lights vs weapon mounted lightsHandheld flashlight shooting techniquesSpecial considerations for using red dots in dynamic lighting conditionsDefensive 1-man and 2-man close quarter battle theory High intensity shoot and move drills \n\n\n\nSchedule:  \n15:00 Setup\, issue out ammo and weapons\, equipment inspection\, introductions\, scope and purpose\, goal setting 16:00 Safety brief\, and low light theory17:00 Safe weapons handling\, tactical movement\, live fire warm up18:00 Learning new skills\, 4 flashlight techniques19:00 Low intensity moving and shooting training20:00 High intensity moving and shooting training21:00 Debrief\, clean up\, go home  \n\n\n\n\n\nLocation: \nOur facility is in the mountains 1 hour east of San Jose\, 1 hour south from Livermore. SUMMARY:Firearm Safety Class 24MAR24
DESCRIPTION:Monarch Defense’s Firearm Safety Class is the most important class we offer\, and the most important class you will ever take during your self defense training. That’s why it is now free. \nLet’s face it. If self defense was easy\, you could just watch a few videos\, and “figure it out” by yourself. If firearms were easy\, schools such as ours would have no reason to exist. But that’s just not reality. Good people go to jail every day\, because they don’t know what they are doing. Good people become victims of crime every day\, because they don’t know what they are doing. Good people get hurt every day because they don’t know what they are doing. The study of firearms and self defense is a complex amalgamation of history\, science\, psychology\, and physical skill. Weapons are not toys\, and if used improperly can result in serious safety or legal hazards to you and your loved ones. \nThe problem that I often face as a teacher is students who want the “advanced” stuff and want to skip the basics. Folks expect to just buy a gun\, and magically know how and when to shoot bad guys. Some people watch some videos and think they are ready to go straight into fast\, cool training\, but this isn’t how it works. “Advanced” is just another word for “mastery of the basics”. There is no such thing as advanced training; There are only those who have taken the time to develop their foundation\, and those who haven’t. When beginners show up to advanced training without a solid foundation of attitude\, skill\, and knowledge\, all they will find is frustration. Out on the street there are winners\, and there are losers; There are those who mastered the basics\, and those who found out the hard way that they didn’t. This program exists to prepare you for a successful future in protecting yourself\, so that you can make wise decisions regarding buying\, learning\, carrying\, and using firearms. \nOver the last 11 years teaching professionally\, I have strived to design a thorough hands on learning experience which answers all of the questions that you need to know to get started. Information that you can’t just find online\, such as the role of weapons in society\, why peaceful people would have a need for “weapons of war”\, specifically when you can and cannot shoot someone\, the actual crimes that you can prevent with a gun\, real self defense case studies\, hands on comparison between the different types of guns\, so you can understand their real capabilities and limitations (not just Hollywood)\, proper gun handling procedures\, and live fire demonstrations. \nYou will handle and shoot a wide variety of modern firearms\, including pistols\, revolvers\, rifles\, and shotguns. \nLocation: \nOur facility is in the mountains 1 hour east from San Jose\, or 1 hour south from Livermore. If you are an unskilled or inexperienced driver\, give yourself 2 hours to make the drive from most cities of the bay area. We will email detailed driving instructions to you when you sign up. \nSchedule:  \nWe begin together and end together. If you sign up\, plan to stay until we debrief and clean up. \nThis is a two part class: Firearm Safety Class starts at 9am and ends at 3pm. We do not stop for lunch\, although you may bring food and eat during class. Beginner’s Live Fire Range day starts at 3pm and goes until 7pm\, or later\, depending on how fast the class learns. In the winter\, we split the class into two separate days. In the warmer months\, we offer them back to back. If you sign up to shoot\, clear your schedule and plan to be at the facility for the entire day. \nPrerequisites: \nNone \nRequired Equipment:  \nNotebook and writing utensil\nWater\nSnacks\nLunch\nDress for the weather\nPrescription glasses\, safety glasses\, or sunglasses\nEarplugs or ear muffs\nFirearms are provided\, but you may also bring your own. \nCancellations: \nWe do not offer refunds for discretionary cancellations. If you wish to reschedule a class\, you must email info@monarchdefense.org no later than 1 hour prior to class start\, and you will then be credited with the value of your course\, which you can gift to someone else or use for any future class within 1 year. \nQuestions?
